geh, arima

Besides fashion and literature (more on that to come) I am obsessed with anime. OBSESSED. I watch fansubs (orignal japanese anime with english subtitles done by bilingual fans) to the point that I've picked up a good deal of Japanese. Anime is a fascinating medium, I've seen some of the best love stories and greatest action in really good anime. I promise to get back to some fashion and to finally document my DIY's eventually, but since this blog is about what makes me tick, today is anime day

Some of the first anime I ever saw was on Adult Swim, in particular Inuyasha and Trigun. If you've never really watched much anime, you could do much worse than to start with these two. Sesshomaru and Vash the Stampede are two characters after my own heart.

If you're like me and have watched so much good and bad anime that you're constantly on the search for something new and mindblowing here are some suggestions:

Best overlooked romantic oldie: His and Her Circumstances: By the same director as Neon Genesis with the same mangaesque style incorporating art and the written word. Beautiful, honest and haunting. Watch the first 5 episodes here.

Best hilariously random: Azumanga Daioh. Brilliant and makes me rofl everytime I watch it. It's so hard to explain because it's so darn random but watch 2 episodes and thank me later.

Best recent: Code Geass. I'm still in the midst of watching season 2 of this, but it's soooooooooo good I had to put it on here. The art, the plot, Lelouch, all of it is mindblowing. I could only find a pretty horrible quality video of episode one since it's being taken down due to copyright nonsense, but this anime is so gorgeous and compelling you must watch it in it's full quality which you can get by going here.

I'm going to do lots more anime posts in the future, and for all those who don't like anime at all, how sad for you... ^_^

coco roses

The Haute Couture shows have started!!!!! Karl has sent out a gorgeous show at Chanel, light and and intricate, in a white and black palette.

The models makeup is perfection, right up my alley, The perfect black liquid line with the rest of the face kept fresh and rosy. They look like the living versions of the flowers that are adorning almost all the clothing.

I'm loving the florals I really am...

rabbit at rest

Sadly for us all John Updike has passed away at the age of 76. His prolific wriiting career including the often great Rabbit series chronicling the life of Henry "Rabbit "Angstrom. You will be missed John.

it's almost too much

I'm dying, seriously. Not to turn this blog into TheTudors fansite, but omg the costumes are amazing!! This scene literally took my breath away. The shoulders, the leather, the pleating of the leather, the cream leggings with the brown boots and jacket, everything about it is phenomal. My mind is blown.

My brain is churning, so much inspiration, so much fashion lust, so much intrigue. Okay back to watching I go. ^_^

alone again...

So my bf is off frolicking on the beach in Central America while I am stuck here in the arctic tundra that is NYC. Besides being supremely jealous and more than a little bit lonely, I'm also camera-less for a week since I gave him my camera to take lots of pictures so that I can live vicariously through him and his tan. I've been using the free time however to not clean my room(heh), finally start watching The Tudors, and dive deep into my blog obsessions. The sumptuousness of the costumes of The Tudors is enough to keep me company for days.

I'm particularly inspired by the men's fashion. It's Balmain without the rock n' roll. Just sex, rich fabrics and sharp tailoring. Expect some DIY's with some costume shop cast offs and my old velvet blazers soon!

Oh and if you've never read anything by Dave Eggers, run, don't walk to your nearest bookstore and pick up What is the What and A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius.
You're welcome.
